Dr. Jazmin Ghent is an award-winning international jazz saxophonist and educator. Over her brief career, she has become a decorated leader for the new generation of jazz, R&B, and gospel music, as well as an accomplished music educator. While always striving for the pinnacle of success, Jazmin received a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida State University in Jazz Studies/Music Education, a Master’s Degree from Tennessee State University in Music Education, and a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in Music Education. Jazmin currently resides in Ottawa, Canada, with her husband, Maurice, a foreign service officer. She is a Professor of Music teaching Music Education and Music Cognition at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. She also teaches Entrepreneurship in the Arts virtually at Tennessee State University.

In 2019 Jazmin received the prestigious NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album for her third studio album, “The Story of Jaz”. She was subsequently nominated for the award again in 2022 for her fourth album, Forever Jaz. In 2019, Jazmin was nominated for Smooth Jazz Network’s Best Artist of the Year and was voted 2017’s Best New Smooth Jazz Artist.

Jazmin has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals and venues such as The Dave Koz Cruise (Australia 2019 and Spain 2023), Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway (2019 and 2023), Newport Beach Jazz Festival (2016, 2021), Long Beach Jazz Festival, Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival, Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, Berks Jazz Festival, Catalina Island Jazztrax (2016, 2017, 2018, 2022), Punta Cana Jazz Festival, Cancun Jazz Festival, Low Country Jazz Festival, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Lake Arbor Jazz Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, Stockton Jazz Festival and the Capital Jazz Cruise to name a few. She is scheduled to perform on the Smooth Jazz Cruise and the Dave Koz Cruise to the Netherlands, Norway and Iceland in 2025.

Jazmin has 7 top 5 Billboard singles, including Compared To What, Heat, Amends, Work Wit It, Kickin It Up, Stride, and Upgrade. The songs remained on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay Chart for 20+ weeks and received heavy rotation on major jazz stations, including Sirius XM Watercolors. Her most successful hits were Kickin It Up and Upgrade. Both were #1 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay Charts. Jazmin currently has 5 CDs to date, with her latest, Dr. Jaz, released in August 2024.

Jazmin is also an accomplished music educator. She taught music to students in grades K–5 in Lakeland, Florida for 5 years. In 2020 Jazmin was invited by the US Embassy in Haiti to spend seven days presenting music workshops to adults and children. She worked with musicians, demonstrating the origin of jazz from standards to the jazz of today. The week culminated with Jazmin headlining the International Jazz Festival in Port Au Prince, Haiti. She was selected to perform at the 2022 World EXPO in Dubai. Jazmin presented workshops to young musicians in Syracuse, New York; Long Island, New York; Elmira, New York; Lakeland, Florida; Miami, Florida; and McKinney, Texas, where she was presented the Key to the City of McKinney.
